This hike is sponsored by the
Orange County Sierra Singles
section of the Sierra Club. The hike only runs in the summer, while
daylight savings time is in effect. The group meets each Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
The hike is oriented to beginners, and is easier than most. Essentially all
Sierra Club hikes are open to the public.
At the peak of the season there are usually 40 or more people on the hike.
The hike lasts about 1½ hours, and afterward about a dozen of us go
to a local restaurant for a snack.
Although the hiking area is located in middle of the city, there are
a few isolated trails in the region that give the impression of being
far away. It is not quite the same, but for those who live in
the area the convenience of the hike is appealing. There are three
primary routes and several variations on each, providing some variety
in the hikes.
You should bring some water, especially when the weather is hot. The
hike is not strenuous, so a pint is usually enough. A small flashlight is
recommended when the days grow short at the end of the season. Tennis
shoes are adequate, but hiking boots are better.
